Description
Her eyes strayed toward the opposite end of the boat. Jenna saw that most of the people on the cruise were heading toward the lower part of the yacht. She was left alone with Carter at the far end of the deck.
The wind was so strong she felt like a rag doll buffeting back and forth, hitting the rail with such force she almost cried out in pain.
Wave after wave lifted high into the air soaking the deck with swishing water. One giant wave came with such force that two of the lifeboats flew over the railing of the ship.
Jenna tried holding on, but it was impossible. She felt herself flying over the side of the yacht and hitting the water with such force it knocked the air from her lungs.
She felt it was the end of her journey as a huge wave sucked her under the swirling water. She tried fighting, but it was impossible. When something grabbed her, her thoughts became hysterical.
Was it a shark she’d met up with? No, she cried out silently, I shouldn’t think this way. I’m not going to give up hope. Her thoughts were running wild in her terrified state.
She gasped for air when someone lifted her out of the water into the lifeboat. She breathed in deeply trying to fill her lungs with air and expelling the seawater that had filled her throat. She lay back in the small bobbing boat.
As she looked around, she saw Carter using one of the paddles that had been secured on the lifeboat. He fought against the wind and the waves to keep them from capsizing and going under.
Darkness was falling and it seemed Carter had fought against the raging storm overhead for hours. It was pitch black and Jenna felt so alone in the middle of the huge ocean with only Carter as her companion.
She silently wondered how the yacht was weathering the storm. Glancing around, she couldn’t see any outline of the ship that they’d been thrown from earlier that day. Again, a shudder passed through her and she wondered if Brody was safe.
Eventually, the storm began to subside and the sky started to clear. Jenna felt how upset her stomach reacted to the continuous jostling movements the waves made.
She looked up and saw a clearing in the sky. The moon glowed through, accompanied by brilliant stars shining brightly. At least the worst of their experience was over. Little did Jenna know that this was only the beginning of an experience she would never forget for the rest of her life.
